Our Mission:
St. Vincent de Paul of Our Lady of Lourdes of Raleigh Conference members strengthen our community through Vincentian ideals by visiting our Neighbors and helping to resolve acute financial burdens that are currently affecting their lives. References for other assistance, services and counseling may also be provided.
What is the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP)?
- An International Catholic lay organization, in unity with the Church, was founded in France in 1843 to minister to the poor and vulnerable.
- Each SVdP Conference is usually organized on a parish level.
- There are two SVdP Conferences in Raleigh: Our Lady of Lourdes & St Francis of Assisi.
- The Our Lady of Lourdes SVdP Conference was founded in 2019 and has been serving neighbors and parish members in need since then.
What do we do?
- We serve all parishioners and neighbors of all faith persuasions in need within a certain boundary around the Parish.
- SVdP helps people in an emergency to prevent homelessness, loss of utilities, work, medicine, etc.
- We have a hotline for people in need to call and leave a message. Our intake team calls the neighbor to understand the situation and determines if it something in which we could possibly assist. Intake will then assign a case number.
- Two visitors, who have been trained, will then contact the neighbor and set up a time to visit them to assess their need and gather documentation. This visit is performed at the neighbor’s home (outside of COVID). During COVID, all visits are virtual.
- There are many roles within a Conference for one to serve, such as returning hotline voice mails, visiting or an officer role.
- Our Conference is blessed to be supported financially by the Parish and through outside donations. We often partner with other agencies in the area to assist those in need.
