A Confirmation sponsor is the person who "brings the candidate to receive the sacrament, presents him to the minister for the anointing, and will later help him to fulfill his baptismal promises faithfully under the influence of the Holy Spirit." (Rite of Confirmation 5)
More than just a title or the person who presents the candidate for Confirmation, the sponsor is someone who is going to assist their candidate in living as a disiciple of Jesus Christ.
How Can I Be a Good Confirmation Sponsor?
1) Be a witness of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. 2) Pray with and for your candidate regularly. 3) Have conversations about the faith with your candidate. 4) Support and encourage your candidate in their spiritual life. 5) Continue your own formation by reading Scripture and the lives of the Saints.
1) Fill out the Confirmation Eligibility Form (found at the top of this page) and give it to your candidate. Your candidate will be responsible for bringing the form to class and giving it to their catechist.
