James Joseph and Rosalie W. Fallon donated 20 acres of
Anderson Heights land to the Diocese of Raleigh. The second Bishop of
Raleigh, the most Reverend Eugene J. McGuinness considered the possible use
of the donated land for future Catholic hospital.

Most Reverend Vincent S. Waters, former Chancellor of the
Diocese of Richmond was consecrated Third Bishop of Raleigh.

1954
|
Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School opened two months
before official establishment of parish. Sister M. Bettina Batchelder, CSC
appointed first principal. Sisters of the Holy Cross served on faculty of
school. First mass celebrated in church December 5. Most Reverend Vincent S. Waters presided then dedicated
temporary church and school. Reverend Paul Byron preached. Reverend Francis
J. Tait was installed as first pastor. Establishment of St. Bernadette Altar
Guild.

First patronal feast of the parish celebrated by Most
Reverend Vincent S. Waters and Reverend Michael J. Begley (consecrated Bishop
of Charlotte 1971). Convent was completed and sisters moved in after living
in the Catholic Orphanage.

First Forty Hours. Rectory dedicated after living in
rented house for two years.

First group of nine students graduate from school.

Establishment of the first layman’s parish advisory
council.

Reverend Michael A. Carey appointed as second pastor.

St. Michael the Archangel, Cary opened as mission church.

Reverend Francis J. Tait returned as third pastor.

Building campaign began for the dual purpose of erecting
new church and renovating present building into multi-purpose center.

Most Reverend Francis Joseph Gossman former Urban Vicar of
the Archdiocese of Baltimore was consecrated fourth Bishop of Raleigh. Sister
Mary Agnes, RSM appointed principal of school. Sisters of Mercy of Belmont
served on faculty of school. First annual union service with Ridge Road
Baptist, Highland Methodist and the Raleigh Moravan church.
